By now you may have heard that Southern California has become the United State’s newest fireplace. The BBC even covered the story.
Over at a friend’s blog she asked “What Would You Save” and CNN in partnership with TIME ran an article documenting some of the things that people had saved from their homes.
I had a hard time coming up with 5 things, but perhaps that stems from the way I grew up.
Needless to say, it can be somewhat emotional to put yourself in the shoes of others during times of emergency. I’ve mentioned before that I like to make up stories based on minimal information. So when I saw this image, it really set off a story for me. The things she took (if you don’t like clicking on links) were two pictures in frames, and a Dr. Seuss book.
As a fun creative writing exercise, or just a stretching of the mental mass, what reasons can you think of that would explain this book being saved?

The book probably held centimental value to her. It may have been a childhood book she grew up with or maybe even her childs book. These are obvious conclusions and not exactly creative writing but i’m probably fairly accurate.

While you may think they are obvious conclusions, the answers you gave or based off of information that is not present.
Did you entertain the idea that perhaps she was learning to read English?
Just one of many ideas I had had.

if you look at the frames, i believe that is her with a baby (probably hers), and then another picture of the baby. my guess is that is her son or daughter, and besides having those pictures, she wanted at least one thing to be able to share with him, should they actually end up losing everything =( it seems as though that would be a good item to make things seem less bad – a book that would make him/her laugh and forget their troubles for that brief moment of wondering if Sam I am likes Green Eggs and Ham =]
good post, zak!
